Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers’ Association Seeks Executive Director

The Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers’ Association (PMHCA) is a 23-year-old, $1.5 million non-profit statewide membership organization representative of the individual and collective expression of people who have recovered or are recovering from mental illness. The purpose of the Association is to promote and support mental health recovery through advocacy and education and to eliminate stigma and discrimination.
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of PMHCA. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and membership, programmatic, advocacy and administrative objectives. The position, located in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, provides senior-level oversight for a staff of 14 people.
Qualifications include:
- Proven, effective, progressive management experience in nonprofit environments
- Passion for improving the lives of people diagnosed with mental illness through effective advocacy and education
- Strong supervisory skills
- Experience in organizational development and implementation of strategic plans
- Understanding of the mental health system, preferably from the lived experience
- Understanding of the public mental health system, preferably the system in Pennsylvania
- Systems and legislative advocacy experience
- Effective written, computer and verbal communication skills
- Grant/fund development management experience
Main Areas of Responsibility:
- Administration/Finance: Responsible for the development, implementation and accomplishment of the goals and objectives of the Association; financial management including budget and fund development and fiscal accountability; administrative oversight of all Association operations and contractual obligations; development and compliance with administrative policies; maintain assets of the Association; establish and maintain positive working relationship with the board of directors
- Advocacy: Develop and promote, with the board of directors, systems and legislative advocacy agendas; establish and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders and government officials; work in coalition/collaboration with other stakeholders and assure professional representation of the Association in advocacy activity
- Membership/Constituency: Expand and strengthen membership base and engage members in work of the Association; provide informational and educational products to the membership and others involved in the PA mental health system; gain ongoing feedback from the membership to ensure association goals and policies are congruent with the needs of the constituency.
Compensation is commensurate with experience with benefits including:
