Ken Eng

Ken Eng works as an Information Technology Generalist for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. He has been married to his wife Jan for the past 10 years and describes her as the love of his life. The pair met at church while they were both living and working in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Ken was attracted to Jan because of her beauty and kind and compassionate nature. He was also seeking information about mental illness after having some negative experiences in a past relationship and was told by church members that Jan was the person to consult. When she told him after a few months that she herself was in mental health recovery, he had feelings of ambivalence. But he didn’t turn away, and he learned from Jan that mental illness isn’t who a person is, mental illness is just a condition one has to manage. This knowledge changed his life so much that it has become his mission to convey this message to anyone who will listen—with the permission of his wife, of course.

During their marriage, Ken has accompanied her to therapy and supported her during her moments of doubt and paranoia with positive affirmation and his colorful sense of humor.

Ken is the evidence of how feeling connected can ground and how there is invaluable worth in an act of faith.
