Jason Matlack’s love of life and the people that surround him is apparent the moment you meet him. He is strongly connected to his family, and his greatest passion is working with people in recovery from mental illness as a Certified Peer Specialist.
While Jason’s ease of communicating with others and striving for career and employment success have always been strong character traits, they did not always reflect what was really happening in his life, and even more so, in his own mind. His mental health issues and drinking prevented him from developing meaningful relationships and led to bad business decisions. The loss of his business was the tipping point when his illness took over, and he faced do or die moments, psychiatric hospitalizations, and difficult life transitions.
But his strong relationship with his father and other family members sustained him through these dark times, helping him to hold on to hope that he could find recovery and a life purpose. He is now able to use his skills to encourage others in their recovery and the caring he has received he now is able to genuinely offer to others.
Jason is the evidence of how hope transforms.
